Grade 2 titanium is a commercially pure titanium grade. It has moderate strength but excellent plasticity, making it easy to process and form. It offers good stamping, welding, and machining properties.
Grade 2 titanium provides good corrosion resistance in atmospheres, seawater, wet chlorine, and oxidizing, neutral, or weakly reducing media. Its oxidation resistance is superior to most austenitic stainless steels, although its heat resistance is limited. This alloy is commonly used in humid atmospheres and seawater environments, where it exhibits particular resistance to pitting, acid corrosion, and stress corrosion. It is also resistant to alkalis, chlorides, chlorine-based organic substances, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, etc. However, it has poor corrosion resistance in reducing or oxygen-deficient media and those containing chromium salts.
Used in fuselage and aircraft engine parts, marine chemical parts, condenser pipes, heat exchangers.
